Here are the steps I recommend to avoid making drastic errors that could lose your Windows system:ġ. If you prepare the new disk before restoring, you will get a working Windows system with the correct partition order and properly functioning recovery functions. Restoring the system to a new disk with the correct partition order is the second challenge. Windows will function properly, but recovery fuctions may not work. Checking the Disk box and leaving all other boxes checked will result in a restore with the wrong partition odrer. If the MBR box is unchecked, True Image 2016 will not recognize the new disk as a destination if there is no partition structure on the disk. I'm not sure what Acronis is doing with that box with a disk initialized as GPT, but the box should be checked. The first point of confusion is the MBR Track 0 check box.
Restoring a UEFI/GPT Windows system properly to a new disk is a little challenging. Your SSD will now be available for data storage in Windows Explorer.True Image 2016 does a good job of restoring a UEFI/GPT Windows system to the original disk. We recommend using the NTFS file system.Īfter formatting is complete Click finish to close the Wizard. Choose an unused Drive letter and click next. Next we will need to assign a drive letter. This will open the New Simple Volume Wizard. Once the partition has been created Right Click the unallocated area and select "New Simple Volume"
In our example we will select MBR partition style. Either can be selected however keep in mind older versions of Windows will only be compatible with MBR. Now we will have to choose a partition style. Right Click on the area that says "Not Initialized" and select "Initialize Disk" Find the unallocated disk that corresponds with the capacity of your SanDisk SSD. Next we will need to initialize the disk.
This will open the Computer management console. From either the desktop or the start menu, Right Click Computer and select manage.
